Hungary's Szoboszlai set to miss Euro 2020 with groin injury

Liverpool midfielder ruled out of tournament after failing to recover from injury

Szoboszlai's absence is a major blow to Hungary's hopes of reaching the knockout stages

Hungary have been dealt a major blow ahead of Euro 2020 with the news that captain Dominik Szoboszlai will miss the tournament with a groin injury.

The Liverpool midfielder has been struggling with the problem for several weeks and missed the Reds' last pre-season friendly against Stuttgart as a result.

Hungary coach Marco Rossi confirmed on Tuesday that Szoboszlai will not be fit to play in any of the team's three group games against Portugal, France and Germany.

"It's a big blow for us," said Rossi. "Dominik is one of our most important players and his absence will be a big loss for the team.

"We will have to find a way to cope without him, but it will not be easy."

Szoboszlai's injury is a major blow to Hungary's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2020.

The Hungarians are ranked 37th in the world and are in a tough group alongside reigning champions Portugal, world champions France and Germany.

Without Szoboszlai, Hungary will be relying on the likes of RB Leipzig forward Dominik Szoboszlai and Hertha Berlin forward Adam Szalai to provide the goals.
